The Spit Junction Masterplan was prepared during 2012-13 to explore opportunities to revitalise and improve the town centre, including the Civic Centre site. The Masterplan was placed on public exhibition for a two month period which ended on 3 December 2013.
Council resolved in early November 2013 to place two additional options for redevelopment of the Civic Centre site on public exhibition for 4 weeks. The exhibition period commenced on 21 November 2013 and closed on 19 December 2013.
The Civic Centre site (7,700 square metres in area) comprises the Civic Centre building (council chambers and administration), library, adjacent public carparks, Village Green and retail/residential units fronting Military Road.
The two additional options have been developed to retain the existing Council building and Village Green while providing for enhanced library facilities, improvements to Mosman Square, additional public carparking and improved access and some private residential development. Importantly they also provide for staged development to ensure minimal disruption to the site.
