Council provides a duty planning service to assist customers with their planning enquiries. In any one day our duty planner answers questions over the phone, via email and in person about matters such as constructing a new deck, renovating a heritage listed house, setting up a café, building a block of units and reviewing a development application lodged by a neighbour.
When Council met last Tuesday it resolved to resist attempts by the State Government to standardise local area character by urging the Minister for Planning to exclude Mosman from the provisions of the new Medium Density Code, and to make permanent our current exclusion from the Housing Code.
From 6 July 2018, one and two storey dual occupancies, manor houses and multi dwelling housing (terraces) will be able to be carried out as complying development on certain land throughout NSW under the NSW Government’s new Low Rise Medium Density Housing Code (the Medium Density Code).

The NSW Government has recently introduced a new suite of Land Management and Biodiversity Conservation reforms which create a framework for the regulation of native vegetation clearing in NSW.
Since late 2015 the number of short term holiday rentals listed in Mosman (such as Stayz and Airbnb) increased from 200 to over 430. Council continues to receive enquiries from Mosman residents and property owners on this issue, with concerns about amenity impacts as well as questions about permissibility.
The State government has proposed changes to the planning framework affecting schools and child care centres. A draft State Environmental Planning Policy has been prepared and is currently on exhibition for public comment until April 7.
Council has resolved to exhibit a draft Section 94A Development Contributions Plan 2016 to replace the current Section 94A Development Contributions Plan 2012. Section 94A Contributions are payments made by persons undertaking development work to help fund the provision of public facilities.
