A residential component (shown coloured) has been proposed on the current Village Green space facing The Crescent. The idea is to introduce residential development on the Civic Centre site to help fund the provision of bigger and better community spaces and places including a new library, more space for aged care, new childcare facilities and much more.

  1. Trading off a green park for a suggested ten story block of flats is totally unacceptable and there is justifiable outrage from the community.

This area needs to be set aside for a major underground parking station with the green reinstated on top.

  2. The proposal to allow a residential development (and 10 stories is a disgrace) on the current village green will create significantly greater traffic congestion ( and crossing from Mosman square to Mosman oval is already fairly dangerous for children), it will completely change the feeling of open space that one gets looking back from Mosman oval towards Military road and across over the carpark, it will make the new proposed smaller village green feel hemmed in and dark ( how will it get light?) and it will reduce the amount of public green spaces that make Mosman so attractive. As one writer said if we wanted a Chatswood we would go and live there. This is a shortsighted move that will create a concrete jungle. Further the assumption that the current village green is underuterlised is misplaced. One only has to visit the green on a summers night to observe the many children enjoying the open space. How will children be able to kick a soccer ball on the new proposed green? Impossible.

  3. Why not close off the street to traffic from Art Gallery Way to the junction of Myahgah Rd and The Cresent? Offer the Units (adjacent to Forth Village Providore) who have garages for their cars, a car a space in the new Unit development fronting The Cresent that will overlook Allan Boarder Oval. I can not say I am in favour of a residential development unless this road was closed off to allow for a safer, more user friendly community space.
I am not opposed to development if it is sustainable, an improvement on the existing area and practical. It is also not practical to have a Village Green that does not have exposure to sunshine and open space. In order to keep a village atmosphere we need to respect the principals of village living and planning. I ask the planners to look at French and Italian village squares for inspiration. The proposed plan will need some serious tweaking in order to fulfill a warm village community feel. I look forward to continued community dialogue.

  4. The Village Green is not good for children to play on. Balls get kicked on to the road and are chased. The parking area is 1970′s style and no longer efficient use of space. The area can be better configured so trading off the parking area and Green for a better use of the Mosman Square area is a good idea. The oval is handy for kids to play as is the square itself.
