The 2015 Mosman Design Awards showcased some of the best examples of residential development and architectural excellence in Mosman. This year we received 16 nominations from many talented architects responding to questions of sustainability during design and construction.
Over the past two weeks there has been considerable community interest in Council’s vision for the Civic Centre site. Three Community Information Meetings were held – attended by over 90 local residents, business people and others – at which Mayor Peter Abelson outlined problems with the current civic facilities and options for new facilities and community spaces on the site.
This morning the Mayor, Councillor Peter Abelson, hosted a breakfast meeting with local business people to outline Council’s vision for the civic centre site. There was general support for what the Council is trying to achieve to secure improved community facilities on the site and revitalise the centre. This support was given with a note of caution about the effects of development, displacement and construction on business operators.
Council’s vision for the Civic Centre site has been on exhibition for two weeks now and we’ve already received a lot of feedback in response to this from the Mosman community. Here’s a snapshot…
2014 saw planning take a back seat at the State level after the Government’s planning reforms stalled in the Upper House. At council we turned our attention to concentrating on local issues. Needless to say there were still changes happening at the State level that needed a local response to such as the much maligned 10/50 Vegetation Clearing Laws. Significant and comprehensive changes were also proposed by the State to SEPP 65 (Design Quality of Residential Flat Development) and its potential effect on development in Mosman was carefully considered and responded to.
A photographic survey for the Lower Boyle Street Heritage Conservation Area (HCA) has been completed.
Nominations are currently open for the 2015 Mosman Design Awards and Council encourages architects and owners to nominate for these prestigious awards.
