Education and Child Care SEPP

On 1 September 2017, the NSW Government’s new State Environmental Planning Policy (Educational Establishments and Child Care Facilities) 2017 commenced.

The SEPP aims to make it easier for child-care providers, schools, TAFEs and universities to build new and improve existing facilities throughout NSW, by streamlining approval processes and applying standard design quality principles and controls to land, overriding local zoning and planning controls.

Council raised significant concerns in response to the exhibition of the draft policy earlier this year. (Council’s submission of 6 April 2017).
