Planning panels legislation

Last week the NSW Parliament passed legislation that would amend the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act to remove the role of Councillors from determining development applications, among other things, under Part 4 of the Act. These functions will be required to be undertaken by an independent panel of experts called a local planning panel.

In Mosman we have the Mosman Development Assessment Panel (known as the MDAP). This independent panel has operated successfully for the last six years determining development applications that are referred to it. Under the amendments to the Act, the MDAP is taken to be an existing local panel. The requirements for Panels under the Act are similar to the Mosman model.

The MDAP will continue to provide expert, well-informed and transparent decision-making on development matters in Mosman.
